Known for playing a National steel guitar flat across his lap with a glass medicine bottle slide, Babe Kyro Lemon Turner was a defining voice of pre-war Texas blues. Mentored by Oscar 'Buddy' Woods, he recorded for Decca in 1937, creating a smooth, Hawaiian-inflected slide sound that contrasted sharply with the aggressive Delta bottleneck style. He was briefly rediscovered in the 1960s folk revival, recording for Arhoolie.
