Calvin Frazer was an important transitional figure who played alongside Robert Johnson in the 1930s before migrating to Detroit. Alan Lomax recorded him for the Library of Congress in 1938 alongside Sampson Pittman. In Detroit he adopted electric guitar, recorded for Savoy and Fortune, and served as a critical musical bridge bringing authentic Delta slide techniques into the modern electric era of the upper Midwest.
