David Honeyboy Edwards was one of the last direct links to the original Delta tradition, the final direct link to the world of Robert Johnson, Charley Patton, and the pre-war Delta tradition. He was present the night Robert Johnson was poisoned in 1938 and provided one of the most detailed accounts of Johnson's death. He rambled across the South for decades, recording sporadically for the Library of Congress (with John and Alan Lomax in 1942), Chess, and other labels. His autobiography 'The World Don't Owe Me Nothing' is one of the essential first-person accounts of Delta blues life. He continued performing and recording into his nineties, winning a Grammy in 2008 at age 93, and his death in 2011 at 96 marked the end of an era.
