Ishmon Bracey

Ishmon Bracey was a foundational figure of the Jackson, Mississippi blues scene, running in a tight circle with Tommy Johnson and Charlie McCoy. He recorded 16 sides for Victor and Paramount in 1928, showcasing an intense, highly rhythmic style on tracks like 'Saturday Blues.' Unlike many of his contemporaries, Bracey experienced a religious conversion in the 1950s, became an ordained minister, and spent his later years refusing to play blues.
