John Paul Hammond (born 1942 in New York City, New York) is an acoustic guitarist, harmonica player, and highly dedicated practitioner of traditional country blues. The son of the legendary Columbia Records producer John Hammond Sr., the younger Hammond bypassed the music industry establishment to fully immerse himself in the pre-war blues catalogs of artists like Robert Johnson, Blind Willie McTell, and Muddy Waters. Emerging during the 1960s folk and blues revival, Hammond recorded extensively for Vanguard Records.
