Rubin Lacey was a deeply influential early Mississippi blues musician who famously mentored a young Son House on slide guitar. He recorded only two released sides ('Mississippi Jail House Groan' and 'Ham Hound Crave' for Paramount in 1928) but they reveal a powerful, moaning vocal style over intricate guitar work. Following a train accident in the 1930s, Lacey gave up the blues to become a Baptist minister in California.
