Simon & Garfunkel brought ethereal harmonies to folk-rock, but Paul Simon's guitar playing was profoundly influenced by the blues. During his time in England, Simon learned fingerpicking from British folk-blues masters like Bert Jansch and Martin Carthy, who themselves were emulating Big Bill Broonzy and Lead Belly.
