Beulah Belle Thomas, known as Sippie Wallace, was a classic blues singer from Texas whose powerful voice and songs of female independence made her one of the significant figures of the 1920s blues recording era. She recorded for Okeh between 1923 and 1927, accompanied by Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, and her brothers Hersal and George Thomas. After decades away from music following her husband's death, she was rediscovered and championed by Bonnie Raitt in the 1980s, recording the album 'Sippie' for Atlantic with Raitt's support. Her comeback demonstrated that her voice had retained its power well into her eighties.
