The Who

Before they became pioneers of the rock opera, The Who were aggressive purveyors of 'Maximum R&B' for the London Mod scene. Their early sets were heavily reliant on the swinging R&B of Jimmy Reed, Slim Harpo, and the hard soul of James Brown, blues was one ingredient among several in a mod-R&B stew.
