Rambler Blues

Recorded in Paramount's notoriously low-fidelity Chicago studios, this track highlights the foundational sound of Texas blues. Unlike the heavy, rhythmic stomp of the Mississippi Delta, Jefferson's Texas style featured complex, jazz-like single-string runs and unpredictable phrasing that rarely adhered to a strict 12-bar count. He used his guitar as a conversational partner, answering his high, clear vocal lines with rapid-fire arpeggios. This loose, improvisational guitar style laid the groundwork for later Texas electric masters like Lightnin' Hopkins and T-Bone Walker.
