Howlin' Wolf absolutely hated this song. When Willie Dixon first presented "Wang Dang Doodle" in 1960, Wolf thought the bouncing rhythm and catalogue of disreputable party guests were far too silly for his dignified, menacing style. Dixon practically had to force him to record it. Despite Wolf's reluctance, the band locked into a joyous, chaotic groove that captured the celebratory, raucous side of Chicago's South Side club scene. Koko Taylor would later cover it in 1965, turning Wolf's discarded novelty into a massive hit.
