Charles Allan Rich, known as 'The Silver Fox,' was a pianist and singer whose music drew equally from blues, jazz, country, and rock and roll. He recorded for Sun Records in Memphis alongside Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Johnny Cash, and his piano style was deeply influenced by the blues and jazz he heard growing up in the Arkansas Delta. His 1973 crossover hit 'Behind Closed Doors' and 'The Most Beautiful Girl' made him a country superstar, but his earlier recordings for Sun, RCA, and Hi (particularly the blues-soaked 'Lonely Weekends' and the soul-influenced 'Mohair Sam') reveal an artist of unusual depth and eclecticism.
