Charles Isaiah Ross, known as Doctor Ross or 'The Harmonica Boss,' was a one-man band who played guitar, harmonica, and drums simultaneously. Born in Tunica, Mississippi, he recorded for Sun Records in Memphis in the early 1950s, producing raw, energetic recordings that captured the sound of the juke joints. His Sun recordings 'Come Back Baby' and 'The Boogie Disease' were powerful examples of the pre-electric Memphis blues sound. He later moved to Flint, Michigan, and continued recording for Testament, Fortune, and other labels, maintaining his one-man band format.
