John William Henderson, known as Homesick James Williamson, was a Chicago slide guitarist who claimed to be a cousin of Elmore James and who played in a similar, if less explosive, slide style. He was a fixture of the Chicago blues scene from the 1950s onward, recording for Chance, USA, Prestige, and other labels. He was known for his unreliable stories about his age and background (he claimed birth dates ranging from 1905 to 1924), but his slide guitar work was genuine and powerful. He continued performing into his nineties and was one of the last surviving members of the classic postwar Chicago blues generation.
