Luke Jordan was an early foundational figure of the Virginia Piedmont blues style. Based primarily in Lynchburg, he was highly regarded for his nimble fingerpicking, clear voice, and repertoire of folk-pop tunes, which he recorded for Victor in 1927 and 1929. His 'Church Bells Blues' influenced a generation of Southeastern musicians, though his recording career was cut short by the Depression.
