Joshua Barnes "Peg Leg" Howell (born 1888 in Eatonton, Georgia; died 1966 in Atlanta, Georgia) was a key figure in the early documentation of the Atlanta country blues scene. Howell lost his right leg following a gunshot wound in his youth, leading him to work as a street musician and bootlegger in Atlanta. In 1926, Columbia Records documented Howell, making him one of the very first rural country blues musicians to be recorded.
