Pinkney Anderson, known as Pink Anderson, was a Piedmont blues guitarist and medicine show performer from Spartanburg, South Carolina, whose name (combined with that of fellow blues musician Floyd Council) provided the inspiration for the band name Pink Floyd. He performed with traveling medicine shows from the 1910s through the 1950s, developing a repertoire that encompassed blues, ragtime, spirituals, and popular songs. He recorded four sides for Columbia in 1928 and 1930, then was rediscovered during the folk revival and recorded albums for Prestige/Bluesville and other labels. His warm, easygoing performance style reflected the medicine show tradition of entertaining diverse audiences.
