Ranie Burnette was a vital foundational figure in the North Mississippi Hill Country blues tradition. A contemporary of Fred McDowell, Burnette directly mentored modern Hill Country masters R.L. Burnside and Kenny Brown. He recorded very little commercially, remaining a local legend who preferred playing house parties and running a rural grocery store.
