James Milton Campbell Jr., known as Little Milton, was one of the premier soul-blues artists of the postwar era, a guitarist and vocalist whose sophisticated style bridged B.B. King-influenced blues, Memphis soul, and Chicago sophistication. He first recorded for Sun Records as a teenager, then moved to Chess/Checker where he scored hits with 'We're Gonna Make It' and 'Grits Ain't Groceries.' His later recordings for Stax, MCA, and Malaco continued to demonstrate his powerful, melismatic vocal style and stinging guitar work. He was one of the most popular live draws on the soul-blues circuit until his death in 2005.
