Rev. Johnny L. 'Hurricane' Jones

Reverend Johnny L. "Hurricane" Jones (born 1936 in Atlanta, Georgia) is a ferocious practitioner of the Southern sanctified gospel tradition. Jones is not a blues singer; rather, he operates within the ecstatic, highly charged preaching style that shares the raw emotionality and rhythmic intensity of the most aggressive country blues. Operating out of his Atlanta church, Jones gained regional recognition for his incredibly energetic, shouting sermons and impassioned congregational singing.
