Moses Smith, known as Whispering Smith, was a towering figure with a surprisingly nuanced, breathy harmonica style that earned him his nickname. He settled in Baton Rouge and became a key session player for J.D. Miller and Excello, playing alongside Lightnin' Slim and Silas Hogan. He recorded his own sides in the 1960s and 1970s, establishing himself as a foundational pillar of the Baton Rouge swamp blues scene.
