James Arnold, known as Kokomo Arnold, was a left-handed slide guitarist whose fast, aggressive playing style was among the most technically impressive of the pre-war era. His 1934 recording of 'Milk Cow Blues' for Decca became one of the most covered songs in blues history, later recorded by Elvis Presley, Eddie Cochran, and many others. His other notable recordings include 'Old Original Kokomo Blues' (a version of Scrapper Blackwell's 'Kokomo Blues' that Robert Johnson later reworked as 'Sweet Home Chicago') and 'Sagefield Woman Blues.' He retired from music in the late 1930s to work in a steel mill and was briefly rediscovered before his death in 1968.
