James Isaac Moore, known as Slim Harpo, was the most commercially successful exponent of Louisiana swamp blues, a laid-back, rhythmic style produced by Jay Miller in Crowley, Louisiana, for the Excello label. His recordings 'I'm a King Bee,' 'Rainin' in My Heart,' 'Baby Scratch My Back,' and 'Shake Your Hips' were distinctive for their lazy, hypnotic grooves, Harpo's nasal vocal delivery, and his simple but effective harmonica playing. 'I'm a King Bee' was covered by the Rolling Stones on their debut album, and 'Shake Your Hips' appeared on the Stones' 'Exile on Main St.' His music influenced the development of swamp pop and Baton Rouge blues. He died of a heart attack in 1970 at age 46, just as his career was experiencing a revival.
