Show 53: Alphabet Blues, Pt. 13: Sun Records
Sun gets its own chapter because it sits at one of the busiest crossroads in American music. This show is about the blues under the hood of rockabilly, early rock and roll, and Memphis studio culture.
I'm your host. For today's 53rd episode of the CC Blues Show, we will be resuming our Alphabet Blues series, where I aim to spin, for you, the most important tracks from every significant record label. Last week, we covered Specialty Records, Stony Plain Records, and a good chunk of tracks from Sun Records. Tonight, we'll be finishing up the incredible catalogue out of that legendary label, and then we'll hear some of Vanguard Records' most visionary musicians. Up first, we've got the boy from Tupelo's recording from 1955 entitled "Milkcow Blues Boogie." Accompanying Mr. Presley on guitar is Scotty Moore, and on bass is Bill Black. This trio of Elvis and his Blue Moon Boys comes in on the track slow, but after the first line Elvis insists to the fellas that "that don't move me," and that this time they've gotta be gettin' real, real gone for a change before kicking up the tempo. Here it is.
