Show 63: Harlem's Legacy in Blues
Harlem belongs in a blues map because it was a performance capital, a publishing center, and a place where jazz, blues, cabaret, and Black theater kept rubbing shoulders. The show uses that setting to hear blues in a more urbane, uptown frame.
For today's 63rd episode of the CC Blues Show, we will be exploring the sounds of the Harlem Renaissance in anticipation of my DJ set at FIU's Wolfsonian Museum this Saturday the 30th. Up first is Louis Armstrong's iconic take on the Harry James classic "It's Been a Long, Long Time," with that unforgettable opening line.
