Show 17: Booze and the Blues Tradition

Drinking songs are one of the blues’ oldest houses, and this show walks right through it. The tracks are grouped to show how liquor in blues can mean joy, swagger, ruin, escape, or all four at once.

Host Narration

For today's seventeenth episode of the CC Blues Show, we will be focusing on the theme of Booze Blues, that is, two hours of rhythm and booze, I mean blues, tracks pertaining to beverages of the alcoholic variety, songs detailing the effects, both pleasurable and perilous, that drink inspires. Up first is Floyd Dixon's "Hey Bartender," Mr. Magnificent Dixon's "Hey Bartender." This song was made exceptionally famous by Blues Brothers Jake and Elwood and played a major role in making Dixon comfortable for the rest of his life. Here it is.
